I’ve been what I’ve been and I’ve seen what I’ve seen
and I’ve learned how to feel what i feel
I’ve known the side streets, the broken-heart dreams
now I’m putting my back to the wheel
I’m putting my back to the wheel.

I see nameless poor and I see aimless war
and greed that takes all it can steal
and I can’t sit here silent, hide my head at the bar
so I’m putting my back to the wheel
I’m putting my back to the wheel.

and if you can’t help me, well, I understand
I ‘ll just keep on pushing alone
but if you stand beside me and we join our hands
we can roll away the stone
we can roll away the stone

now I don’t know how much time I have left me
no one who climbs sees the top of their hill
but I can’t watch murder and theft and feel free
so I’m putting my back to the wheel
I’m putting my back to the wheel.
