When my writing muse is away, I turn to my other pursuits. Especially in the midst of sorrow, I find comfort in distractions of the body and mind. When in doubt, try something new.
This first month of 2019, I have been pulled toward drawing, a skill I’ve never tried to gain before. I’ve been able to lose myself in the focused attention of trying to shape the blank page into form, without the problem yet of “meaning” anything. And like all the things I tend to dive into, a narrow question like drawing a face opens up rabbit-hole-like into a whole universe of thought that connects math and music with the shape of the world. Cool!
