Fatal Encounters

It seems like Investigate-gate ™ has turned into Stalemate-gate, as though both sides are holding off, afraid to go forward. Robert Mueller is a forgotten man. What report was that again? Spy v Spy has turned into a dull game to watch, but behind the scenes the endless investigation into the investigation continues. And Fox News— like an elephant— never forgets.

Yes, that part of P.R. Burn-em’s Circus is a bit boring right now. But maybe— despite the first real contest being almost 6 months away— we can amuse ourselves with the Blue Clown Primary Fashion Show. The models are in Iowa this week, building market share for next year’s caucus. Oh, look at that, kids. Old Joe Biden made a clown of himself. Again.

Oh, no, and again! Are you fookin’ kidding me! Biden’s pratfalls are pretty hilarious for the youngsters, but not if you care about the future of the country. This is who the Dinosaur National Committee wants to run against Trump? Good luck with that.

There ain’t much chance of these buffoonish clowns actually beating the Trump machine in 2020, is there? Dang it! That leaves impeachment as the best hope for saving the world.

Wait. Could it be…? Did I hear someone actually saying the “i-word” above a whisper? It’s Jerry Nadler, realizing he’s the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee.

“This is formal impeachment proceedings,” Nadler said in a CNN interview. “We are investigating all the evidence, gathering the evidence. And we will [at the] conclusion of this — hopefully by the end of the year — vote to vote articles of impeachment to the House floor. Or we won’t. That’s a decision that we’ll have to make. But that’s exactly the process we’re in right now.”
That timeline would put an impeachment battle in the middle of the Democratic presidential primary contests, which begin in early 2020 — a concern for Democrats who believe that the window to act on impeachment is quickly closing.
“The Judiciary Committee is now determining whether to recommend articles of impeachment against the president based on the obstructive conduct described by the special counsel,” Wednesday’s filing states, adding that McGahn is the committee’s “most important fact witness in its consideration of whether to recommend articles of impeachment.”

Now that’s cool, baby! Go, Jerry, go! Stand up to the Squawkzilla and the Trumpasaurus Rex. But the end of the year is way too late. You better push that timeline up, my friend. I’m one of those concerned about the window closing, and I’m not even a Democrat. Don’t wait, because too little, too late, is too dangerous. (Jay Inslee said that.)

Speaking of being stunned by so much terrible gun violence, did you know that death by police is the sixth leading cause of death among young men of color? Dang, that’s disheartening.

Here’s the best data source for death by police, compiled from newspaper reports since the federal government and states don’t keep any records on this.

When we think about who should have guns, we should also think about law enforcement along with criminals. Let’s get all the guns off our streets and we’ll all be safer. From the Side, it looks like de-escalation needs to happen on all sides.

Sometimes a bit of logic seems so simple that I can only wonder what I’m missing.

For example…

The climate crisis is the overwhelming issue of our times. Right? Existential. Life or Death. WW3. End of times type of thing.

Jay Inslee is overwhelmingly the best candidate on climate. Right? The Gold Standard. The only candidate with a real plan, real experience, and real commitment to fighting the climate crisis. Remember, the climate crisis is the overwhelming issue of our times.

Therefore Jay Inslee is overwhelmingly the candidate who should be nominated by the Democrats.

It’s two plus two, folks. Not rocket science, or even climate science. Let’s get it right this time. Or we’ll end up in our own fatal encounter with an Earth that won’t let us live here anymore.
